Nestled in the mountains of Bali, Ubud is often referred to as the island’s cultural heart. Ubud features rice terraces, Hindu temples and shrines, shops selling local handicrafts, yoga studios, and fantastic restaurants and cafés.
Ubud is also filled with hotels to house the millions of tourists that visit the island every year. While these hotels vary in price from around $15 a night to over $700, many fall in the $50-$100 per night range. So how do you choose the best hotel, especially when many of them have fantastic reviews?
Well, that’s where we come in. We’ve scoured hotel websites, travel blogs, and social media to find 11 of the very best hotels in Ubud. Read on to learn more about these gems!
1. Villa Neyang

If a peaceful, quiet getaway is what you’re after, you could not do much better than Villa Neyang. Surrounded by rice fields, Villa Neyang offers guests an escape from the noise of central Ubud and a chance to experience the real Bali.
Villa Neyang has only two freestanding wooden villas; each comes with a terrace and a bathroom with an indoor garden and open-air rain shower. The hotel is a 10-minute drive from Ubud village and the hotel offers a free shuttle service twice a day. Guests can also enjoy a delicious, complimentary breakfast.
One of Villa Beyang’s best features is its staff; the owner and his family go out of their way to ensure guests are comfortable and happy.
2. Kama Bisma Cottage

Ubud has changed a lot over the years, becoming a lot more touristy and hectic than it used to be, but you can still find some special places that let you experience Bali how it used to be. Kama Bisma is one of those places.
This small family-run hotel is situated in a quiet pocket of Ubud, surrounded by rice paddies, yet still just a short walk away from the main drag in Ubud. Kama Bisma’s large, bright rooms have stunning views of the surrounding rice fields (and ducks). The staff is fantastic and there is a small but beautiful pool and great breakfasts on your balcony.
3. The Runik Ubud

With only four rooms and run by a local family, The Runik offers guests a more intimate experience, while still being just a short walk away from the center of Ubud. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and clean and guests can enjoy the beautiful pool and garden and views of the rice fields. The staff are friendly and attentive, and your stay includes a free breakfast.
4. Alam Dania Cottage

A 15-minute drive from the bustling center of Ubud, Alam Dania Cottage offers guests a peaceful stay in an area surrounded by palm trees and rice fields. Villas have open air bathrooms and the price of the room includes breakfast, which is served on your balcony.
Alam Dania offers complimentary shuttle service to Ubud village several times a day, and also rents out scooters to guests. The staff is excellent and rooms are both cleaned once a day and prepared for you in the evening.
5. Sri Ratih Cottages

Sri Ratih is a 15-minute walk to central Ubud. Rooms are spacious and have terraces or balconies and beautiful bathrooms. The staff is warm and attentive and the pool is large and gets a lot of sun, which is not common in Ubud. The hotel also provides afternoon tea around the pool.
While you should stick around for the hotel’s fantastic breakfasts, there are lots of warungs (small restaurants) within walking distance to check out. And for those who don’t want to wander out for massages or other treatments, there is a spa on site.
6. Taman Amartha

Taman Amartha is situated away from the noise of central Ubud but still within walking distance (about 20 minutes) of the town.
The hotel has about two dozen rooms, all of which are spacious, clean, and have comfortable beds. Each room offers a terrace and a view of one of the two pools and the jungle beyond. A fresh, delicious breakfast is included in your stay, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
7. Nyoman Sandi Guesthouse

Nyoman Sandi Guesthouse is family-run and located on a traditional family compound in the village of Taman Kaja, about a five-minute drive or a 15-minute walk from central Ubud. The area surrounding the guesthouse is quiet and away from traffic noise, which is not always easy to find in Bali.
The guesthouse’s 13 rooms are clean and spacious and have balconies or terraces. The grounds are beautiful and there are three beautiful pools to choose from. The staff is friendly, and guests can enjoy a large, fantastic breakfast and lovely touches like a nightly turn-down service.
8. Ayu Duwur Beji

Beautiful Ayu Duwur Beji features spacious rooms, suites, and villas in a quiet area away from the flurry of the center of Ubud.
The service here is superb and owners Wayan and Ayu and their staff make guests feel like family. The hotel has a great pool with a gorgeous view, along with delicious food which is served on your balcony. They also offer a free shuttle with service three times daily to the center of town.
9. Puri Astina Villa

Peaceful and picturesque Puri Astana is a family-run villa situated in a lush, tropical garden with views of rice fields and mountains in the distance. Guests have the entire villa to themselves and are looked after by Wayan and his family, who are excellent hosts. There is a beautiful pool and delicious breakfast which is served in the garden.
The villa is located 15 minutes by car from the heart of Ubud, and guests can rent a scooter from the family or get rides anywhere they would like for a small fee. Wayan even gives guests a mobile phone to call him when they are ready to be picked up. Meals can also be ordered in if you would like to stay at the villa, and we’re guessing you will.
10. Kano Sari Ubud Villas

Kano Sari Ubud Villas is actually one luxury villa divided into six uniquely designed suites, which can be booked separately or as a whole. Rooms are spacious and bright and set around a swimming pool and tropical gardens that overlook the Jero Gadung river gorge.
Each room comes with a private terrace, handcrafted Balinese furniture, and rain showers, and guests can enjoy breakfast and an all-day dining menu. The hotel is a 15-minute walk from central Ubud but retains a quiet, tranquil atmosphere.
Kano Sari’s staff is wonderful and the hotel features lots of wonderful little touches that add up to make your stay that much better: there is a free shuttle service to Ubud for most of the day, and guests are provided with amenities such as temple sarongs, mosquito spray, and a mobile phone to contact the hotel if necessary.
11. Purana Boutique Resort

Last but certainly not least is Purana Boutique Resort, a lovely little hotel on the outskirts of Ubud. Purana offers suites and villas; all have kind-size beds and either a balcony or a terrace, and both villas have a private pool.
In addition to an outstanding staff, Purana features a beautiful pool, great restaurant, spa, and free activities such as yoga and making Balinese offerings from coconut leaves. Breakfast is served in the public area, in your room, or—if you’re feeling extra—on a floating basket in the pool. The hotel also offers free tea, coffee, and Balinese cake in the afternoons.
Purana is located about 10 minutes outside of Ubud, and they offer a free shuttle.
